How To Use Photo Editing Software
One of the biggest advantages of digital photography is the ability to not only take your own photos but make changes to them in any way that you want before you either print them out or share them with your family and friends. A whole industry has grown up around the photo editing part of the digital process and today there are lots of choices of good quality photo editing software.
Perhaps the first place to look for photo editing software is the digital camera that you buy. Often you will find that the manufacturer bundles a photo editing package into the deal with the camera itself, and sometimes these free gifts can be very useful. Almost all photo editing software out there will let you crop your photos to get rid of unwanted parts of the scene, and rotate the images either right or left. For many people this is most of the changes that they will be making anyway.
But other more powerful software will allow you to remove red eye from flash photos, and adjust color, brightness, and contrast too. Another great feature is the ability to reduce file size so that files are easier sent by email or transported by other means. If your digital camera did not include software that has these features, make a search online for "free photo editing software" and you should be able to come up with plenty of quality choices that will let you edit your photos to your hearts content.
Of course, for those that want to have the most control over photo editing, there are some major software packages that are not free but do an incrediblke job of almost any editing task that you could imagine. First and foremost among these software packages is Adobe Photoshop, which is very expensive. However, they also produce a more streamlined version called Adobe Photoshop Elements that meets the needs of most average users and then some for a much lower price, usually in the $60 - $100 range. You may also want to consider Corel Paint Shop Pro as another quality alternative too that gets high ratings and reviews.
It's probably best to start out with one of the free photo editing packages mentioned above to see what features you really need and to get familiar with the photo editing process. Then you can graduate to one of the commercial photo editing software packages afterward when you have more experience under your belt.
